Celebrating the 17th Annual WCHRI Research Day and a Visionary Partnership
The Alberta Women’s Health Foundation (AWHF) is proud to celebrate its longstanding partnership with the Women and Children's Health Research Institute (WCHRI), a collaboration that continues to transform the landscape of women’s and children’s health research.
This year marked the 17th Annual WCHRI Research Day, held on November 6, 2024. This exceptional event provided a dynamic platform for trainees to showcase groundbreaking research, fostering a vibrant learning and networking environment. For nearly two decades, Research Day has highlighted the remarkable strides being made in women’s and children’s health, and this year was no exception.
The AWHF is deeply committed to advancing research that addresses the unique challenges faced by women. Our partnership, built on a shared vision for innovation, has grown exponentially over the years, reflecting our dedication to creating meaningful change.
WCHRI Research Day would not have been possible without the enthusiastic participation of 139 dedicated members who volunteered as reviewers and session chairs. These individuals helped create an engaging environment where trainee researchers could share their findings and receive valuable feedback. To the trainees who presented their work: your passion and innovation are the heartbeat of this event, and your contributions will shape the future of health care.
Lindsay Robertson, AWHF’s Vice President of Communications, Marketing, and Brand, addressed the audience on behalf of the Foundation. Her remarks celebrated the journey of AWHF and WCHRI, and the thriving collaboration that drives critical research and care forward.
“It’s inspiring to witness how we’re building this future, chapter by chapter, through breakthroughs and collaborations that propel us toward critical discoveries. It’s these moments, occurring in labs across our city and beyond, that remind us we are precisely where we need to be—leading in women’s health. Together, we are building momentum, moving the needle, and making a lasting impact on the lives of women across Canada.”
The impact of this partnership is also evident in the innovative work happening at the Dale Sheard Centre for Solutions in Women’s Health at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. From addressing disparities in women’s health to supporting tailored treatment strategies for conditions like heart disease, osteoporosis, and autoimmune diseases, our researchers are rewriting the story of women’s health care.
As we reflect on this year’s Research Day, AWHF extends its deepest gratitude to the researchers, trainees, volunteers, and partners—and the ongoing work of WCHRI— who make this event possible. Together, we are creating a brighter future for women and children, fueled by groundbreaking research and unwavering dedication.
